Information for prospective members
Teams
The club runs four teams in the Surrey League and one team in the Border League.
Location of the club
Ashtead Chess Club meets on Tuesdays in the Ralli Room, Peace Memorial Hall, Woodfield Lane, Ashtead, KT21 2BE from September to July. Juniors start at 6.15pm and the full club at 7.30pm. Contact the secretary Dan Rosen (see below) for details.
Tournaments
Various internal tournaments covering all rates of play. All are free to enter.
Membership
All ages welcome, all levels of experience.
New Members Wanted...
Ashtead Chess Club is seeking new members. Players would have the opportunity of playing for one of our inter county teams suitable for all standards of play.
We also run a friendly club tournament open to all with trophies for the “top player” under the rules, player of “most games”, player with “most wins” and “best junior”.
If you would like to come along, any Tuesday to see what we are like, you are most welcome. You would not need to pay the subscription unless you decided to join us or to play for one of our teams.
Children from the age of 6 receive coaching and playing instruction from Ashtead club member Mike Bolan, a very experienced coach.
A number of Ashtead juniors have represented Surrey and England over recent years most notable being David Howell who is the new British Champion. Kate Shepherd was playing for England in the European junior championships in Italy.
The junior club stats at 6.15 until 7.30 on Tuesday evenings at Ashtead Peace Memorial Hall, Woodfield Lane, Ashtead. For more information contact Richard Jones 01372 813487
